Our Ensemble

Based in New York, our ensemble was co-founded by Guzheng musician Yixin Wang, Erhu musician Beitong Liu, Pipa musician Xiaoyan Luo, Sheng musician Hengjian Zhang, and Suona & Guanzi musician Hiu-man Chan. Together, we represent a deep commitment to artistry and collaboration, creating music that resonates with harmony and innovation.

Our Mission and Passion

We aim to bring the sound of China to a global audience by exploring music from different periods, styles, and arrangements, blending tradition with innovation. Our passion lies in preserving the rich heritage of Chinese music while introducing creative elements to explore more possibilities. By blending traditional techniques with modern influences, we ensure that Chinese music remains vibrant and relevant for audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

Our repertoire spans a wide range of musical genres, including silk and bamboo music, wind and percussion music, Middle Asian music, and jazz. By exploring these diverse styles, we offer a rich musical tapestry that bridges traditional Chinese music with contemporary influences, creating a dynamic and innovative sound.

Through performance and education, we connect people worldwide with the timeless beauty of Chinese music and culture.

Our Experience

Our resident musicians are accomplished graduates of prestigious conservatories in the U.S., China, and Hong Kong, bringing a wealth of expertise in both performance and education. We have performed at renowned venues such as New York’s Carnegie Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Chinese Consulate in NYC, Washington D.C., and Houston, as well as major locations in Texas, Maryland, Canada, the Bahamas, Austria, mainland China, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

With years of teaching experience, we have worked with students of all ages and backgrounds, sharing the art of traditional Chinese music in engaging and meaningful ways. Many of our members have also mastered multiple traditional Chinese instruments, demonstrating exceptional versatility and deep dedication to their craft.

Echos of China Ensemble is organized exclusively for educational purposes under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or corresponding section of any future federal tax code.

Educational Outreach

Beyond concert performances, we actively engage with communities to share the beauty of traditional Chinese music. We host educational events in schools, community centers, and cultural institutions, offering hands-on workshops that allow participants to interact with traditional Chinese instruments and music-making.

Additionally, we run summer camps and immersive programs that provide deeper engagement, teaching the intricate techniques, historical significance, and cultural essence of Chinese music. Through these initiatives, we aim to inspire our audience to appreciate and connect with the rich traditions of Chinese music and culture.
